Knezic’s talk on Azure Cognitive Search draws attention at JavaCro'24

How do we make the most of Azure Cognitive Search? This tool from Microsoft, also known as Azure AI Search, allows us to search large and complex datasets quickly and reliably. At this year’s JavaCro, a dynamic gathering of Java professionals, our Hrvoje Knezić spoke about how we are using this technology at Emil Fey Digital.
Almost all fifty seats in the room were taken for his talk titled Utilising the full potential of Azure Cognitive Search. Hrvoje explained how we quickly find information across large and complex data models, no matter how complex the search is. His presentation moved between theory and real-life examples. Many of the attendees were new to Azure Search. Hrvoje set up a demo app to show some of the key features; he also answered a number of questions, which led him to delve into additional capabilities.
As the session neared its end, questions kept popping up one after another. There was a lot of interest on how we use Azure Search in different workflows. Some people wanted to hear more about our tech stack on Azure and at the company. Finally, Hrvoje and his audience had to continue the conversation outside, because the mic and the floor had to be handed to the next speaker.
Our Nino Cerovec, Antonio Ćosić, Andreas Grđan and Dario Strelec also attended JavaCro. They all went to hear talks on tools and techniques like Mutation Testing, improved Garbage Collectors, Virtual Threads in the latest LTS version of Java 21, and Drools. Many of these have the potential for use in our work.
In conferences like JavaCro we get fresh perspectives on the latest Java trends. We also get to know how other companies are boosting productivity, quality, and client satisfaction. We have been attending this reputable conference since our early days, and we have been speaking here for the past three years.
Hrvoje Knezić is an experienced Java backend developer with over eight years in the field. He has worked on diverse projects, from REST services and cloud microservices to image-processing apps. Right now, he leads a team of several developers, working on different projects related to our CRM solution.
How about some Texas hold'em in the evening? Why not! Andreas and Hrvoje took first and second places!
