Education in full swing in November and December

At Emil Frey Digital, professional growth and development of our employees are among our top priorities. Throughout the year, we organize professionally led workshops and training sessions in key areas. They allow us to learn new things and improve our skills. They also keep us on top of trends and best practices. This improves our performance at work and makes us more successful as an organization.
In the last two months of 2024, we held three intensive training sessions for our employees of different teams and skill levels.
Oracle database: Optimizing complex SQL queries
Ten of our colleagues from the EFIT team attended the SQL Tuning workshop in November. It was about using analytical and technical skills to improve query performance with Oracle databases. The three-day program involved analysis, discussions, and practical examples. It was held at our Varaždin office and led by an expert from the Algebra university.
What participants said about the workshop:
- The key takeaway is that there is no “magic wand” – optimizing complex queries in an Oracle database requires thorough analysis and understanding. Luka B.
- Great extension of our knowledge, with best-practice examples and new concepts. Jurij P.
- Very detailed presentation that broadened our understanding, which we will use to solve future optimization challenges. Dorian S.
ISTQB training for testers, as their role evolves
EFD testers completed an intensive three-day ISTQB training, the most highly regarded certification for software testers. Held by CROZ in Zagreb this November, it covered two levels.
Foundation level training was intended for QA testers who are on their way to become automation engineers. They learned key concepts, testing techniques, and steps in the process. This is the basis for mastering more advanced topics and further training.
Specialist level training was intended for more experienced testers who have already completed the foundation level. They learned how to design and develop test automation, set up its architecture, create automated test reports, and more.
The entire 2024 was about switching to automated software testing. To make this happen, we worked on upgrading and expanding the QA role with knowledge and skills needed for automation. This not only requires developers knowledge, but also onboarding to new technologies and appropriate training.
Azure: 4-day workshop by Algebra university
Backend developers and DevOps specialists took part in the Azure Administrator workshop held in our offices by the Algebra university in the first week of December. It lasted four days. They learned how to manage Azure subscriptions and identities, set up virtual networks, connect Azure with on-premise resources, and manage network traffic. They also covered topics like data storage, creating and scaling virtual machines, deploying web apps and containers, backing up and sharing data, and monitoring solutions.
